Kristin Urquiza
Regional Canvass Director, New England
School: Yale University, 2003
Staff since 2003.
“Each year I work for the Fund, I am given more responsibility and have a larger impact on the issues I care about and the people who work for me. There really are not too many jobs out there where right out of college you can actually apply yourself fully, run a project, and be responsible for making decisions and implementing a plan and campaign strategy. Making photocopies for a Senator’s office just wasn’t going to cut it for me! I wanted to take on a lot—to gain real experience of being out there in the world, to meet and work with the people these issues affect, and to boldly gain the confidence to stand up for what I believe in—even in the face of adversity. Working with the Fund has challenged me, trained me, and given me more than I could have asked for—of course, it’s been hard at times but absolutely worth it!”
-Kristin Urquiza
Kristin Urquiza started canvassing with the Fund in the summer of 2003 in Connecticut, working with the Sierra Club on a campaign to protect our National Forests. She graduated that year from Yale University with a degree in Art History. After a summer canvassing, she knew that taking on a career position with the Fund was the right choice for her - she directed offices in Ann Arbor, MI; Minneapolis, MN and Portland, OR before taking on her current position as Regional Director of the Northeast. As a canvass director, she ran some of our largest summer projects – responsible for managing and training over 60 people, and raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for issues like capping global warming pollution in Oregon, protecting the Great Lakes from oil drilling and fighting the anti–gay Federal Marriage Amendment. As a Regional Director, Kristin works closely with canvass directors in New England, helping them implement plans and strategies to run their offices to work on numerous environmental, consumer and social issues.
